I decided I wanted to archive my Miiverse doodles and thought this would not be a bad place to do it.  So, here they are.

Update

I know I don't update as much as I used to but I got some art stuff coming up.  It all comes down to finding the time to work on it, but I shall commit myself to getting those finished and uploaded.  I got some ideas that I just have to get out of my head.

Games of 2012

6 min read
A little something I did for a message board I post at.  I make a list of the best games that were released in 2012 as well as talk about games from last year that I played this year, games of this year I didn't play, and favorite gaming moment of the year.  So here you go:

10. Tales of Graces f (PS3) In the Tales games I usually do not enjoy the stories and characters, although Sophie and Malik were pretty cool and the skits were amusing. The reason I got into this game as much as I did is because I was hooked on the battle system and that alone was enough to put this in my list.

9. Monster World IV (Genesis) That's right, I put a Sega Genesis title on a Best Games of 2012 list.  I think it should count because the game got its first official English release this year and it is a really good game.  The character has some cool abilities with her pet monster and the game is well-designed around them.

8. Atelier Meruru: Apprentice of Arland (PS3) What I find compelling about this game is how it handles story events.  It does not try to hold the player's hand through a series of linear events.  Instead it provides a general guideline of what to do and the player can handle events in whatever order he sees fit.  Of course everything is under a time limit but it never felt too restricting.  I found it compelling enough for me to uncover all of the game's endings so that is worth something.

7. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (3DS) I am a fan of Final Fantasy music so this game was a lot of fun for me, even for the music I am not that familiar with.

6. Ys Origin (PC) It's in the same situation as Monster World IV for me.  It came out years ago in Japan but didn't get an official English release until this year.  The game plays a lot like Oath in Felghana, which I really love, so this game gets placement in my list.

5. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (3DS) As a continuation of 999, this game really delivered on the over-the-top story telling and mind-blowing plot twists.

4. Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii) There was so much to like about this game: the big world, the fact that the story never gets boring the whole way through, the interesting battle system, the lack of random encounters, the way the sidequests flesh out the settings and characters, and the way discovering new things gives the characters experience points.

3. Kid Icarus Uprising (3DS) Say what you will about the controls but I had no problem with them.  I thought the game played solidly with its Sin and Punishment style flight levels, the hectic ground sections, the weapon-collecting, the intensity gauge, and the solid multiplayer.  Of course that alone would not be enough for my number 3 choice.  What really made this game for me was the over-the-top story and fantastic dialogue, especially the dialogue which involved everyone trolling Pit, breaking the fourth wall, and making references to other Nintendo franchises.  That put a smile on my face as I was playing this.

Also, that stand is awesome.

2. Crashmo (3DS) Pushmo was my Game of the Year last year because it had some new ideas and pulled them off brilliantly.  Crashmo tries something completely different and, while more complicated than the original, pulls off its ideas just as well.  I'm sure the added replayability with its QR feature will keep me coming back to this just like I did with Pushmo.

1. Rhythm Heaven Fever (Wii) I knew I would love this game based on how much I loved the DS game.  What I did not expect was the personal impact that the music would have on me.  The game has many great tunes to go with each mini-game and they are great to listen to even when the game is not being played.  When I hear the music, I remember the wacky events of the associating mini-game as well as the loud reactions of the people who I have shown this game to.  That is why, without fail, the game's soundtrack was able to keep my spirits up, especially when I needed them to be, making this my Game of the Year.

Runner Ups:
Journey (PS3)
The Last Story (Wii)
Little Inferno (PC)

Best 2011 Games I Played This Year:
Rayman Origins - I skipped over this initially because I was not a Rayman fan.  I finally got to try the game out and I agree with all the praise it was getting.

Disgaea 4  - I skipped 2 and 3 after getting burned out on the original.  I decided that it would be a good time to jump back into the series.  I am hooked all over again.

Yakuza 4 - I happened to find an available copy off of Goozex so I snatched it up.  It has a pretty cool story and fun fighting system but the sidequests and mini-games are what make this game for me.

2012 Games That I'm Ashamed I Didn't Play
New Super Mario Bros. U - Okay, I did play a few levels on my friend's system.  Still, I would like to play the full game for myself.

Sleeping Dogs - All the comparisons to the Yakuza games are making me want to play this.

Best Random Gaming Moment of 2012:
Retro Game Master's DVD Release - Game Center CX is just an awesome show so I was stoked about it finally getting a Western release.

I also realize that I did not make any journal entry during 2012.  Crazy.

I'm going to try to make time to publish more art stuff in this account, big or small.

New Update

1 min read
So I decided that I should update my journal after a long time of not doing so.

I was busy with a lot of things in the past couple of years that have been keeping me away from drawing.  This might go on for a while longer.

I would like to start drawing again as I have a couple of ideas to go for.

If anyone cares, I use Twitter.  My account is @KSO_514
